Year in Review

Because of enlightenment, we see more clearly, we care more deeply, we give more generously.

The mission of Wesley Woods is to help people age in ethical and healthy and affordable ways. Without the generosity of concerned donors, the mission cannot be achieved. We have had extraordinary goals over the past decades, and we have been able to meet those goals only through the support of extraordinary friends. We are extremely grateful for their dedication and loyalty.

Funds received by Wesley Woods in 2007 were dedicated to three purposes:

  • Charitable healthcare for needy individuals
  • Capital improvements for our aging infrastructure
  • Vital research in the field of geriatric care

Charitable Care

No other facility in the country provides seniors with geriatric services to the magnitude of Wesley Woods.

More than 40 percent of our rental residents live below the federal poverty level. Charitable giving allows our residents to stay in their apartments and receive nutritious meals after they outlive their hard-earned savings. It enables the Wesley Woods Hospital and Clinics to keep their doors open and provide expert care for our seniors.

Last year giving friends of Wesley Woods

  • Enabled almost 39,000 older Georgians to gain access to vital healthcare
  • Provided almost $2 million for charitable care and to cover unreimbursed healthcare expenses
  • Allowed the sickest and most fragile of our residents to remain at Budd Terrace rather than being sent to a state-funded nursing home

Capital Improvements

Our aging infrastructure is in constant need of repair and refurbishment. Often decades-old facilities need to be refitted in ways that were not anticipated when they were designed. The cost of these requirements can be staggering. Last year, donors enabled the Foundation to make the following improvements:

Renovations to Branan Towers, including

  • Replacement of the roof-top HVAC
  • Renovation of common areas including the public restrooms, hallways, elevator lobbies, administrative offices, laundry room, hair salon, and activities rooms
  • Renovation of all resident apartments including the replacement of stoves, refrigerators, kitchen cabinets, countertops, backsplash, faucets, kitchen linoleum flooring, HVAC units, light fixtures, toilets, and window screens
  • Improvements to landscaping
  • Upgrades to the security system
  • Extensive lighting and electrical wiring upgrades
  • Replacement of the fence around the parking area
  • Refurbishment of the elevators
  • Resurfacing of the parking area
  • Replacement of hot water heaters throughout the building
  • Upgrades to the plumbing infrastructure
  • Replacement of the facility’s main entrance door

Renovations to Budd Terrace, including

  • Comprehensive reconfiguration of all seven floors
  • Installation of a new elevator and renovation of two other elevators
  • New Life-Learning Center
  • Conversion of the 6th floor to a hospice floor managed by VistaCare
  • Conversion of the 2nd floor to a dedicated Rehabilitation Floor
  • Renovation of the Collinsworth Auditorium

Renovations to Wesley Woods of Newnan/Peachtree City, including

  • Addition of a skilled nursing unit
  • Addition of a new auditorium and bistro
  • Addition of new assisted living apartments

Renovations to Lanier Gardens, including

  • Replacement of the furniture in the common areas on three floors
  • Installation of new carpeting for the 5th floor
  • Remodeling of previous kitchen area to provide additional administrative space
  • Painting of interior doors for 150 resident apartments, stairwells and electrical room

Research Funding

The Foundation of Wesley Woods supports pioneering research into diseases affecting older adults. Through gifts and fund-raising initiatives such as the annual Heroes, Saints and Legends event, we were able to make the following strides:

  • More than $250,000 dedicated to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's research
  • Contributions that helped to close the funding gap during a time of cuts at the National Institutes of Health

Major Needs

As we look to the future, we are aware of the requirements for continual maintenance of our aging retirement communities and the Wesley Woods Healthcare Facilities. At the same time we are optimistic that the growth of charitable care endowments will enable Wesley Woods to meet the rapidly growing demands for geriatric healthcare.

We extend our grateful appreciation to all who help Wesley Woods extend a better quality of life to those in need. We welcome your participation.
